Vasco da Gama moved two points clear at the top of the Brazilian Campeonato after beating Bahia 2-0 away from home. Felipe and Diego Souza netted in either half to give Vasco all three points, while Corinthians were grateful for a point against Internacional after playing 50 minutes with 10 men. Alessandro was shown a straight red card just before half-time and Internacional took advantage with a goal from Nei on 66 minutes. However, moments after Andres D'Alessandro was sent off for a second yellow card, Corinthians levelled from Alex's free-kick.
Cruzeiro halted their 11-match winless run after twice coming from behind to beat Atletico Goianiense 3-2 in Sete Lagaos. Thiago Feltri and Felipe gave the visitors the lead on two separate occasions, only for Ernesto Farias to equalise before half-time and Ramon Anselmo to score twice in four minutes and snatch victory.
Botafogo and Fluminense both spurned the chance to keep the pressure on the leaders as they suffered shock defeats to Avai and Atletico Mineiro respectively. Fourth-placed Fluminense were on a two-match winning run heading into their home encounter against Atletico but goals from Daniel Carvalho and Andre de Souza gave the visitors all three points. Botafogo were involved in a topsy-turvy game at Avai that saw them take the lead through Sebastian Abreu but then concede twice to Michael Robson and Cleverson. Renato equalised for the title-challengers but there was to be a late twist as Robert De Souza snatched victory for the second from bottom side with five minutes remaining.
Flamengo also dropped points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Santos, with Neymar scoring from the penalty spot early in the second-half and Deivid equalising with 12 minutes remaining.
Ceara coach Estevam Soares was sacked following their 1-0 loss to Atletico Paranaense that left the Fortaleza side in the relegation zone. Soares is the 32nd coach to lose his job this year amongst the top flight and the killer goal from Paulo Baier in the 33rd minute.
Sao Paulo were held to a goalless draw at home by Coritiba, while Wellington and Julio Cesar scored in Figueirense's 2-1 win over Palmeiras, for whom Ricardo Bueno got the consolation. Anderson scored in the 86th minute to rescue a point for basement club America Mineiro against Gremio. Thiago Carleto gave America an early lead but Gremio struck back twice through Andre Lima after Marcos Rocha was sent off. Gremio looked as though they would take all three points, only for Anderson to snatch victory late on.
