Borges struck twice in the first-half to give Santos a 2-1 victory over Fluminense on Wednesday evening.
Both sides have struggled in the Brazilian Campeonato this season and even after victory, Santos are still closer to the foot of the table than the summit.
However, the Sao Paulo club will be buoyed after picking up back-to-back wins for the first time this campaign.
It took them just 13 minutes to take the lead against Fluminense as Elano's free-kick was headed in by Borges.
The visitors equalised before the break when Rafael Moura also headed home but there was still time for Santos to grab a second.
This time it was a solo effort from Borges as he deceived a defender on the edge of the box and lashed a shot past the goalkeeper.
Borges' double puts him top of the goal-scoring charts with 12 goals, ahead of Ronaldinho, who has 10.
