Neither River Plate nor Boca Juniors were able to warm up for the hotly-anticipated Superclasico with a victory in the 11th round of the Argentinian Primera Division.
The two fierce rivals clash at El Monumental on Sunday for the first time in the league in 17 months following River's relegation last year.
Boca, who beat River in two friendlies in January, go into the game having picked up just two points from their last four outings, including a goalless draw against Estudiantes last weekend.
Supporters were less than happy with Boca's performance and under-fire head coach Julio Cesar Falcioni cancelled his post-match press conference.
River, on the other hand, failed to build on their impressive wins over Arsenal and Godoy Cruz as they lost 1-0 at Quilmes.
Martin Cauteruccio scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark when he latched on to Jonathan Bottinelli's mistake and fired home from the edge of the box.
Elsewhere on a low-scoring weekend, leaders Newell's Old Boys remain unbeaten following their stalemate at second-placed Racing Club.
Alejandro Cabral's late winner gave Velez Sarsfield a 1-0 victory over Tigre while Arsenal scored twice in stoppage time to see off Colon 2-0.
Lisandro Lopez struck late in the first half and Jorge Ortiz wrapped up the victory in the 93rd minute.
Independiente continued their revival with a fourth straight victory, this time coming courtesy of Julian Velazquez's second-half strike at Argentinos Juniors.
All Boys also won 1-0 against Belgrano thanks to Maura Matos' goal while San Martin beat basement side Union de Santa Fe 2-1.
Mauro Bogado and Humberto Osorio Botello scored for San Martin before a late own goal from Lucas Landa got Union on the scoresheet.
Godoy Cruz and San Lorenzo played out a goalless draw and Lanus netted in either half through Paolo Goltz and Carlos Araujo to beat Atletico Rafaela 2-1.
